Driver training with the driver as the focus

At Drive Wright Scotland, we’re committed to delivering the best training we can to ensure that you have a lifetime of safe driving. For too long, driver training has been focused on the car. We know that more of the training needs to focus on you, the driver. To help you understand how your personality, attitude, values and community shape how you drive. Knowing how your journey could be affected by the time of day, weather conditions and even your mood. Most accidents on the road are caused by driver error, so the importance of this focus is clear.

Our training culture

We’re clear about the culture we want to create within our driver training. It’s got four parts:

  • You matter

  • Failure is fuel

  • Be courageous

  • Take responsibility

You matter

All of our instructors are trained in client-centred learning techniques. It’s all about helping you to create goals that you can achieve within each session. It puts you at the heart of the training process. It takes account of who you are as a person, and the unique characteristics that you bring within who you are. Continual feedback and reflection throughout the sessions mean that you always know how your skills are progressing. And it takes account of how you learn, so that the training is tailored to helping you improve at a pace that suits you.

Failure is fuel

There will be times in your sessions where things don’t go to plan. The path of learning is never straightforward, and there may be setbacks along the way. At Drive Wright Scotland, we work hard to create an environment where mistakes can be made within a safe and non-judgemental environment. Our instructors are highly trained in keeping the car safe, and will help you to do this. And we’ll make sure any mistakes become your fuel - encouraging you to rise above them, and helping you to create strategies to overcome them.

Be courageous

Did you know that the best learning happens on the edge of your comfort zone? Taking a step outside that requires courage. And our instructors will support you to take that courageous next step within your training, whatever that looks like. We’ve taken training in coaching and goal-setting techniques that will help support you every step of the way.

Take responsibility

This is one of the most important aspects of driver training. We want you to take responsibility for your own learning. This is achieved by giving you the tools to do it. We record all sessions on Total Drive, a class-leading driving school admin system, allowing you to reflect in your own time on what you’ve learnt. Reflective practice is crucial in helping the learning sink in. And more than that, we’ll encourage you to take as much responsibility as you feel able to for your own driving. We’ll always clarify how much help you need, and revisit this regularly to help your skills grow.

You’ll learn to drive. But you’ll learn more about yourself.
