Drive Wright Scotland is owned and operated by Mark Wright, a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor
Ever since I was young, I had been fascinated by cars. My parents will tell you that I spent many hours as a child playing with toy cars, rolling them up and down the carpet. Then followed many years of reading my dad's old car magazines, and following Formula 1 on the TV. I was desperate to learn to drive, and had my first lesson on my 17th birthday.
In 2013, I qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor. I'm incredibly grateful to do a job that I really enjoy. Over the years, I have taught in a variety of contexts, including intensive courses for the Ministry of Defence, and training for 10-17 year olds on private land.
Business is currently thriving here in Edinburgh, with a waiting list of pupils that stretches for months. Every day for me is a day of learning, as I continue to sharpen my own skills, and then pass those skills on to those I teach.
What We've Achieved
In 2017, I was rated a Grade A instructor by the DVSA. All driving instructors are assessed approximately every four years to check their skills, and I was awarded 49/51 in March 2017. I am incredibly proud of this, but I'm not stopping there. I'm committed to continually developing my skills to better resource my pupils.
For the last few years, I have been involved in training the next generation of driving instructors. I now work with Caledonian Learner Driver Training and the AA / BSM to deliver ADI training on their behalf. I want to see driving instructors flourish at every level, and I am to instil a passion for delivering a high level of training for all new driving instructors I work with.
In 2024, I started working towards a Professional Diploma in Coaching, Behavioural Change and Driver Psychology, provided through my great friends at Bright Coaching. This is giving me further useful training techniques, as we look to shift the paradigm on what people should get in a driving lesson.
